In anticipation of the North Carolina primary on March 6, 2008, the Immigration Policy Center presents ELECTION 2008: North Carolina. The Importance of Latinos and Immigrants to the Economy and Electorate of the 'Tar Heel State.' This fact sheet provides useful information on the immigrant population and Latino electorate of a state with one of the fastest growing immigrant populations in the U.S. With Latinos making up nearly 7 percent of the population, and a significant share of its foreign-born population being naturalized citizens and eligible to vote this year, Latino and immigrant voters are likely to play a key role in North Carolina's elections. The fact sheet also includes information about the contributions that Latinos make to the state of North Carolina, including nearly $300 million annually in taxes.
