The new meaning of minority in Oregon

Numbers from the IPC State Fact Sheets were used in an editorial written by the Oregonian Editors about the importance of immigrants in their state:
Oregon's numbers are nowhere near the national levels, as it remains among the 10 whitest states in the union. But Oregon's social and economic fortunes are increasingly tied to the civic, cultural and business inclusion of its minority citizens, whose surge in population has been dramatic over the past two decades. As of 2010, nearly one in seven Oregonians were classified as Latino or Asian, reports the Immigration Policy Center in Washington, D.C.
Latinos alone number more than 450,000 statewide, with a median age of just 24 -- prime childbearing years in a cultural group placing heavy emphasis on families. Meanwhile, immigrants of all ethnicities amount to a hefty segment of Oregon's workforce, earning and spending billions of dollars here each year.
