Statement for the House Judiciary Committee on "President Obama's Executive Overreach on Immigration"

The American Immigration Council submitted a written statement to the House Committee on the Judiciary for a December 2, 2014 hearing on "President Obama's Executive Overreach on Immigration." The statement provides a brief historical overview of presidential authority related to immigration which gives President Obama the authority for his Immigration Accountability Executive Action. It also goes into detail about significant social and economic benefits that stem from this Executive Action. It also expresses our concerns that Presidential Executive Orders can be vital first steps in immigration reform. Finally, the statement highlights that Congress needs to pass legislation to ensure lasting change.
